Limited Time

Stroking your skin, lit by the early morning twilight blue

Rain washing away another sleepless night

I wonder how my heart beat without you laying on top of me

I mimic your deep sigh, breathing in your hair

And rest my hands on your back

Your weight on my chest

Tethering me to the present moment

The just being

with you

Right now

Ever careless, my mind sneaks glimpses of the age to come

And I see that these quiet moments with you are fleeting

Soon you’ll be too fast

Too busy

Too proud

Too big to occupy the hollow between my breasts

But right now, as I count and recount your tiny fingers

Marveling at your miniaturized features

You’re my little boy

You’re the best parts of me

A creation that is wholly mine

If only for a limited time
