I’m still stuck on how much I love Matisse. I think his art really reflects his ethos around the process of creating. He famously said, “what I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity…something like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue.” Whenever I look at a piece by Matisse, I feel that way, and I am so grateful. To be sure, we ned art that challenges us at times, but sometimes we just need a minute to calm down—so thank you, Henri!
